Pop Warner Cheerleading, for athletes aged 5 and up, is an exciting and dynamic program that celebrates the spirit, athleticism, and camaraderie of young cheerleaders. The Pop Warner program offers a blend of sideline cheering, half time performances at football games and participation in cheer competitions. Teams are tailored to specific age groups to ensure that each participant can engage in a supportive environment that promotes both personal growth and team success.

At Pop Warner, we take pride in providing a platform for young girls to showcase their skills and passion for cheerleading. Stunts are carefully curated to align with the age and size of the participants, emphasizing safety and precision in every performance. This thoughtful approach not only enhances the visual appeal of routines but also instills a sense of confidence in each cheerleader.

Our team is led by YCADA trained coaches and supported by local high school cheerleaders, practicing twice per week at Newport Harbor High School. This format allows athletes to connect with coaches and experienced cheerleaders in their own community. The cheer season begins the last week of July and runs through November or December depending on the team’s performance and progression from the local OEC competition to regional and national championships.

Registration fees include game day uniforms, a full day JAMZ stunt training camp (held in early August) and cover practice, game day, and league competition fees for the 5 month season. All athletes are also expected to participate in the mandatory annual Golf Ball Drop fundraiser and additional team fundraisers. Fundraising contributes towards competition uniforms, team bonding events, and additional JAMZ competitions entrance fees.

Teams are separated by age groups, however the ages overlap. When choosing a team for your athlete take their current skill level into consideration. If they have previous cheer experience or advanced tumbling skills then choose the higher age group for them (ex. An 8 year old with previous cheer and tumbling experience should choose the Jr. Pee Wee team rather than the younger Mitey Mite team; conversely, an 8 year old with no experience would choose the Mitey Mite team). Also, if an athlete has a friend they would like to cheer with they should choose the same team. Teams chosen at registration are not guaranteed. While there are no tryouts in Pop Warner, if an athlete is better suited for a different team coaches will discuss moving them to a different team with their parent.

**Cheer is a TEAM sport!** Attendance of all athletes at practices, game day cheering, and competition is mandatory and essential for safety! If one athlete is missing from a stunt group, the entire group cannot stunt. While we want our program to extend to every athlete interested, we ask that you only register if you can consistently attend practices, Saturday games and competitions.

Join us in the excitement of Newport Mesa Pop Warner Cheerleading, where young athletes discover their potential, build lasting friendships, and work together towards the shared goal of becoming nationally ranked cheerleaders! Go Patriots!!
